When you pair a device with multiple functions, such as a Nero Dual Relay or Nero Multi, you will get a master device and a collection of children that represent each of the functions of that device. By default the parent and children must be in the same room, moving the parent will also move all of the children.
There are times when this is not the desired outcome, in these cases, you may want to show the parent separately or place the children in different rooms. You can enable this function but changing one of the variables for the parent device.
Change default behaviour
This process must be handled via the web interface. It can not be done in the mobile apps.
- Go to Devices and then the device page (green arrow) for the parent device you want to change.
- Click on Advanced and then select the Variables tab.
- Find the ChildrenSameRoom variable and click edit to change the value from 1 to 0.
- Reload the web interface and you will now be able to assign the children and parent devices to any room without them always clustering together.
If you are unable to assign devices to a new room after following these steps first reload the engine by going to Settings, selecting Z-Wave then the Advanced tab. Click Go next to "Reload Engine" and wait about 30 seconds before trying again.
Assigning child devices to a different room
Unlike the parent device, child devices do not get a room drop down to allow you to assign them to another room easily. To set the room, get the ID of it, then enter that number in the room box on the device variable page (the same page you used above).
